What Each of the Thirteen Sites Is For
An honest table — what each site has, what it does not yet have, and where to read
midicn is split across thirteen sites. This page explains them, including the ones that are not finished yet.
We do not intend to make unfinished things sound better than they are, so the table below has a column called "status".
What you are trying to do here
Browse by site rather than by topic. If you want to know where to study theory, go straight to the theory hub. This page answers "what is each of the thirteen sites".
Where to read: the thirteen sites
Readable now (3)
midicn home (home.midicn.com) — the gateway. This site carries two kinds of content: thirty beginner guides, seventy pieces on music in general, and eighteen clickable ear-training tools. Start here if you do not know where to begin.
Music theory (theo.midicn.com) — over 150 theory entries, from the fundamentals through harmony and form. It is currently the largest knowledge site.
Instrument guide (inst.midicn.com) — over 140 instruments, with cross-section diagrams, range charts and timbre auditions. Start here to understand how an instrument makes sound.
Skeleton sites: content arriving gradually (6)
These already have a home page and a "what this site covers" note, but the entries are not laid out yet:
- Glossary (gloss.midicn.com) — term lookup, behind its plan
- Music history (hist.midicn.com) — to be built
- Composers (comp.midicn.com) — to be built
- Genres and styles (gen.midicn.com) — to be built
- Music production (prod.midicn.com) — to be built
- Chinese music (cn.midicn.com) — to be built
Data sites: where to download from (4)
These four are not article sites; they are where you get data:
- Dataset overview (lib.midicn.com) — sources, licences and download entries for everything
- Track details (mid.midicn.com) — per-work detail and usage guidance
- Archives (zip.midicn.com) — packaged downloads
- Audio (sf.midicn.com) — audio and sample resources
What is not built yet
Three things we have not done, listed so you know where the boundaries are:
1. Site search is still being built — for now, use the six hub pages on the home page 2. The glossary is short of its plan — it targets over 600 entries and currently has only a skeleton 3. Apart from home, theory and instruments, the other knowledge sites are essentially skeletons
And plainly: some of those six skeleton sites may take a long time to fill. We promise no timetable — only that the status table above will be updated when a site is built.
