Professional or Semi-Pro
You take paid work — go straight to delivery specs, tool profiles and client workflow
What you can probably do now
You have clients or regular collaborators, you deliver to deadlines and run several projects at once. The tools are familiar, but the process lives in your head, and it jams the moment someone else takes over. Quotes are guesses and revisions have no ceiling.
The one thing to fix
Turn delivery into a document: format, sample rate, bit depth, loudness, stem naming, revision rounds — as templates and checklists. This decides how much work you can take, not just how well you can do it. Once a template exists, a new project stops being a build and becomes a fill-in.
Three pages to start
- Master delivery formats — write format, sample rate, bit depth and headroom down and half the rework disappears.
- Session interchange formats — when changing DAWs or handing over, usually only time and level travel with you.
- AI contract checklist — scope, disclosure, rights, revisions and exit, item by item.
Do not touch yet
Beginner mindset and talent debates, systematic revision of basic theory, trying every new tool. Look the first two up as needed; save the third until the workflow is stable.
How you know you have moved up
- Revision rounds drop, and a quote states its scope in one pass.
- Deliverables come back with zero rework; someone else can take over from your checklist.
- With projects running in parallel, you can hand one section over complete.
